Next Big Thing Blog Hop @ Wine Whimsy & Words
Hi everyone!
To say that I am truly honoured and humbled to have been tagged in the "Next Big Thing" blog hop is an understatement! A big thank you to Charming Man who continues to be a source of inspiration. If you have not visited his site or read his stories, you are missing out! I urge you to do so immediately, you won't be disappointed.
The "Next Big Thing" blog hop is an opportunity for writers to showcase their blogs and upcoming work. My blog has only been up a few months and I've been dabbling in poetry mostly as I find this very cathartic. However I am currently working on my first short story so, even though a tad premature, that is what I'll highlight here.
What is the title of your book?
The story is currently untitled. I'm really going to have to think about fixing that!
Where did the idea for the book come from?
Sometimes things happen in life that are just too ridiculous, you have to share. The idea for the book stems from a few of my own real life experiences. Really, I couldn't make this shit up if I tried. It's not an autobiography by any means but I took these embarrasing moments and created a story around them. The main character is not me per se but certainly pieces of me are sprinkled in there.
What genre does your book fall under?
Romance/comedy
Will your book be self published or represented by an agency?
An agency? *falls out of chair laughing* ...no. If anything it will be self published. That is the ultimate goal I'm striving for. If/when that happens, I'll be one happy Lady!
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It's taken me several years just to push myself into attempting to write! I've only just started the first draft and, even though it's a short story, I expect it to take the better part of a year...I am a great procrastinator afterall!
Give a one sentence synopsis of your novel:
One small town girl's journey into ecstasy - if by ecstasy you mean an awkward lack luster sexual encounter that may or may not be considered losing your virginity.
What other works would you compare your story too?
It's hard for me to compare it to anything since it's not written yet but I will say that I am influenced by Tara Sivec's Chocolate Lovers series. She does a great job of highlighting the humour in embarrasing situations. If I could manage to infuse even a fraction of the humour into my story that she writes with I'd be impressed.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
This may seem cliche but since joining Twitter, I have been fortunate to meet incredibly talented and supportive people. Some have become good friends and I'm sincerely thankful for that, and many are not even aware of how much they inspire me everyday to keep pursuing this little dream of mine. Without their support I'm sure I would have given up or kept putting it off!
What else might pique the readers interest?
It's a story involving young love and a rather ill-timed moose encounter. Nuff said.
So that's enough about me! Now it's my turn to tag writers that I feel could be the "Next Big Thing". Each of these writers will post about their upcoming work next Wednesday. In the meantime, why not go check out their blogs.
